Languages at MMES
MMES is proud to offer instruction in three languages: English, French, and Chinese.
Our English Literacy program is special. Even our youngest students are learning to read! Students begin by systematically learning the sound of each letter. They learn songs and actions to help them remember all 26 individual letters sounds plus many common two-letter and three-letter blends. Students also learn to write each uppercase and lowercase letter. As students get older, they begin more advanced Literacy activities, such as sentence and paragraph writing, weekly spelling tests, creative story writing, and poetry. Students at all ages read books and have their reading levels tracked by their classroom teachers to ensure progress is always being made. Daily practice and lots of one-on-one attention helps students to become confident readers, writers, and oral communicators.

At MMES French is taught daily! Our students learn practical vocabulary, such as greetings, words to describe their feelings and the weather, words for fruit, colours, animals, and more! In addition, we also follow an excellent, enriched French program called AIM. Through AIM students learn songs and actions to go along with important vocabulary and simple sentences (such as "Come here!" or "Viens ici!"). Throughout the school year students learn a French play (either La Poule Maboule or Le Petit Chat Cherche Un Famille). Students participate in acting out the play in class and at our end-of-the-year concert! At MMES learning French is meant to be both fun and meaningful.
We understand the value of learning new languages at a young age. We also know how important it is for parents to ensure that students do not fall behind or forget their native Chinese language. Our Chinese classes are designed to give students formal instruction in reading and writing, plus encourage opportunities for students to practice speaking Mandarin and Cantonese with their peers and an experienced teacher. Parents love to hear their children recite the songs and poems they learned in Chinese class at home and during our school concerts.
